Variable Speed AC Bandmill Drive
General
The Salem AC bandmill drive is a complete system engineered with the latest vector control technology and manufactured with readily available components to provide excellent performance today and in the future. All components are assembled within a NEMA type 12 floor standing enclosure with a fitted divider to provide a thermal barrier between the dynamic braking resistors and major drive components. Also included is a circuit breaker with door handle, line reactor, control transformer and all necessary panel hardware. An operator control/status panel and sawing speed display round out the package as a complete turn key solution. The system is designed to provide high production, increased saw life, energy efficiency, and ease of maintenance.

Product Features
The heart of the system is Toshiba's G7 drive with their patented True Torque Control vector control algorithm, which provides precise torque and speed regulation without the need for an expensive specially designed motor or encoder. The drive's excellent overload capabilities and robust design make it ideally suited for the sawmill environment. The Salem AC bandmill drive system utilizes a readily available standard (Toshiba EQP III) premium efficiency motor with a proven reliability record in the wood products industry.
The system is designed to start or stop the bandmill in 30 sec. while maintaining the motor current within the full load rating of the motor. This eliminates excess heat and stress on the motor resulting in longer parts life when compared to traditional starting methods. One of the main benefits is that the motor can now be sized for the actual sawing load rather than starting inertia, which normally results in less horsepower thus reducing power consumption. In addition, concerns about frequency of start/stop cycles, high inrush currents and cool down times are virtually eliminated.
The system comes complete with a compact operator control station containing all necessary pushbuttons, switches and indicators for normal operation. The operator has complete control over sawing speed with three programmable preset speeds available as well as one infinitely variable control to adjust rim speed from a "creep" (for tooth inspection) to full speed to accommodate varying sawing conditions. A digital FPM display is provided for the operator to monitor sawing speed. Also included is a back lit multi-line graphical LCD mounted in the enclosure door to accommodate drive setting adjustments and advanced diagnostics without opening the drive cabinet.
